Church of Scotland is committed to safeguarding and ensuring all congregations have the policies and procedures needed, to protect and support those who might be vulnerable to harm or risk of harm.
As a result of “The Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007” Church of Scotland has launched a PVG retrospective project running from October 2012 to October 2015 making it imperative that all voluntary and paid workers, carrying out ‘regulated’ work within the Church become PVG members and successfully complete PVG Introductory training.
Therefore it is mandatory that all those within Liberton Northfield who currently carry out ‘Regulated’ work with Children or Protected Adults become PVG Scheme members (by October 2015) and attend Safeguarding Training on the prescribed dates.
Liberton Northfield is extremely privileged that the Church of Scotland has agreed to send two of their fully qualified Safeguarding Trainers to Liberton Northfield to run an in-house ‘Safeguarding Introductory Course’.
Details of the course are as follows:
WHEN: TUESDAY 26TH AUGUST 2014
TIME: 19:00hrs – 21:30hrs
WHEN: LIBERTON NORTHFIELD CHURCH
WHO SHOULD ATTEND: The course is aimed at those volunteers working within congregations who give one or two hours per week to run Creches, Sunday schools, Parents and tots, Youth groups, Pastoral care groups etc. or staff the various projects being targeted at adults who may be at risk of harm. The training is intended to empower these groups of volunteers so that they will recognise harm and be confident in reporting it.
HOW TO SIGN UP: Please put your name on the Safeguarding Training poster, which can be found in the friendship hall by Friday 22nd August 2014. This will enable Church of Scotland to finalise the numbers (max places 30) and split the group into children/ vulnerable adults workers. All those who attend the course will receive a certificate of attendance.
If you have any questions about whether you should attend this course or would like to discuss anything further, then please speak to: Carlynn Young, Liberton Northfield’s Safeguarding Coordinator, who would be happy to speak to you.
Fully endorsed and supported by Liberton Northfield’s Kirk Session.
