The Claverhouse Conversations have been running for a number of years. Held on a Saturday morning and preceded by a sumptuous buffet breakfast in the church hall, the Conversations are occasional events where one of our members, John Sturrock, hosts in-depth conversations with people from a wide range of backgrounds. They are well attended and much appreciated. Non Liberton Northfield members are very welcome to join us.
Some recent guests have included author, broadcaster and environmental campaigner Alastair McIntosh; Rev Dr Richard Frazer, minister of Greyfriars, who spoke about his book Travels With a Stick; Jenny & Richard Cornfield who set-up the pioneering Mustard Seed Church in Easter Road and the Soul Food charity to work with and serve homeless and vulnerable people in Edinburgh; Elaine Duncan, Chief Executive of the Scottish Bible Society; David Strang, former Chief Constable of Edinburgh & Lothian Police and HM Inspector of Prisons; Adrian Shaw, Church of Scotland Climate Change Officer; Jo Berry, peacemaker and speaker; Olivia Giles, founder of the charity 500 miles, which supplies prosthetic limbs to developing countries; and our very own minister, Rev Attie van Wyk, who spoke about his journey and hopes for our church.
The Conversations have continued, successfully, online while the church hall has not been available due to COVID restrictions.
